West texas winter storm

Parts of West Texas are dealing with a significant winter weather situation this evening as snow and ice falls across much of the western half of the Lone Star state this evening.  Here is the radar composite analysis over the last hour for portions of the area.

The icing seems to be situated east of Lubbock and Odessa finally as many areas have experienced damaging ice in these areas.  Tress and power lines are reported down in copious amounts.  Numerous automobile accidents have also occurred in the area.  THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND TRAVEL IS NOT ADVISED!

Winter Storm warnings are in effect for much of west Texas this evening and this will continue overnight as snow begins to move in from the New Mexico plateau area.  Clovis has already picked up around 3 inches.  The Lubbock metro area is expected to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 to 6 inches total overnight through the morning tomorrow.  Advisory criteria snow and ice are expected west of I-35 in Oklahoma.

LSM Stringers David Drummond and Cody Howard are roaming the west Texas area tonight and will provide coverage through the evening and overnight hours.  New video and photos are expected later.  Stay tuned and be safe!
